This is my first time posting a Wordless Wed. Doesn’t dear son look lovely! 🙂
We have a beautiful backyard, it’s all wooded, and has a creek flowing through it. It’s one of those things in life I am very thankful for. As soon as I step foot back there, it’s like instant relaxation, and tranquility. The kids on the other hand enjoy it for MANY reasons none of which would be tranquility and instant relaxation! Here are 2 of their reasons. My daughter, aka, the inventor, is always making things with the natural clay that she finds along the creek banks. The picture below shows her working on a huge, carved out, heart that she proudly presented to her Grammy.
The other picture is my son, aka sportsmaniac, working hard on his always growing, mega fort. He is currently adding a deck, and has a nice, white resin chair to put on it. He found the chair floating down the creek after a big storm. Cant’ beat those prices for a chair. 🙂
This is one of my favorite lessons I taught the 4th-6th grade girls at our church on Wed. nights. The lesson was about Corrie Ten Boom, a christian women who survived the Nazi concentration camps during WWII. Her testimony of God’s power in the midst of these camps is powerful and can have an everlasting impact on the lives of young girls.
The night I told her story, I had the girls sit on the floor, we all snuggled in close to each other, and then I turned the lights off, and with only a simple flashlight turned on I began to tell her story. I told of how her family took Jews into their house and hid them from the Nazis, I told of her family’s strong christian faith, I told of Corrie’s desire to share Christ with the Jewish people, in the midst of deplorable conditions, and I told of the miracles she encountered while in the concentration camps.
The girls I taught were so intrigued by Corrie’s life, they sat in the dark with me for close to an hour listening and asking questions, and I can assure these are active girls so I could tell they were captivated! Corrie’s powerful testimony can speak greatly into the hearts of young girls, that is why I am listing it in my Training Godly Girls Category!
BTW, the picture above is Corrie’s kneeling in front of the secret entrance in the wall of her family home, the hole was previously in a closet, and they would hide the Jews in a small, cramped room, behind the wall! Amazing!
So here are a bunch of links if you want to share Corrie’s story with your daughter or a girls class you teach….I assure you, it will inspire them! 🙂
BTW, I also have a son, so Training Godly Boys will be coming to this blog sometime in the future!! 🙂
I am speeding down the road, running late for school ( I am a teacher) yesterday. I am attempting to drive, shove a sugared, blueberry doughnut into my mouth ( I know….doughnuts are NOT good for me!), and the radio is blaring. My mind is running 100 mph thinking of all the things I need to do. I quickly pull in to a parking space at school, I am about to get out of the car, and I hear these words on the radio…..
To be still and know
That You’re in this place
Please let me stay and rest
In Your holiness
Word of God speak
I’m finding myself in the midst of You
Beyond the music, beyond the noise
All that I need is to be with You
And in the quiet hear Your voice
It is at that profound moment in the midst of my chaotic, doughnut stuffing, fast driving, late for work, moment that God speaks to my heart to Be still and know……..all that I need is be with You, and in the quiet HEAR your voice.
How can I hear God’s voice if I never have a quiet moment! How can I?
I can not hear His voice if I never have a still moment!
So ladies, please pour yourself a cup of coffee, or tea, sit for a moment and reflect on how important God’s word is to us, and how important it is to be still and quiet in our day, so we can HEAR His voice!
I am off to a quiet place, to stay and rest and hear His voice.
Sometimes I wonder if the concept of saying “Thank You” is fading into oblivion in our society.
I was reading in my bible the other night about the 10 men healed of leprosy (Luke 17:11-19). Remember the story…..10 guys have leprosy, they live on the edge of town, they probably have a pretty miserable life, and suddenly Jesus passes by them. They call out to him, from a distance, He tells them to go show themselves to the priests and as they go they are healed. So Jesus heals these 10 men of this evil, degrading and painful affliction. Now you would think they would have been so appreciative and THANKFUL. You would also think that all of them would seek after Jesus to thank him. But as the story goes, only ONE comes back to say Thank You!
Only ONE, Only ONE…just ONE man……do you think you would have been that ONE who came back and threw himself at Jesus’ feet and thanked him? Or would you have been like the other 9, already moving on with their lives, out socializing with friends and family and forgetting that Jesus just totally healed and transformed their lives.
I would like to think I would be that ONE who came back…..but the reality of life, the busyness, and my penchant to move on to the next thing so quickly, makes me wonder if I would have returned to thank Him.
Those 2 simple words”thank you,” can make such a difference in the lives of our children, husbands, friends, and family members, but do we use them on a daily basis? I want to challenge everyone to say, “thank you” to 3 different people this week for something they did or have done. Go out of your way, say it to someone who may not usually be thanked, or simply say it to your hubby for just being himself, or to a friend at church who works in the nursery or teaches Sunday School to your children, or leave a comment on someone’s blog thanking them for the way it encouraged or ministered to you. If you thank 3 people this week, leave a comment on my blog, take the “Thank You challenge! “ 🙂
So………get out there and thank someone, but in the process do not forget to “go back” and throw yourself at Jesus’ feet and thank Him for all he has done for you!! 🙂
So in case I forgot, or was too busy, or had other priorites…….
Here is to my dear husband who I never seem to thank enough…….
Thank you honey for helping me out so much when I get migraines.
Thank you for always putting gas in the car.
Thank you for picking out great movies for the family to watch together.
Thank you for your warped sense of humor.
sleep…..I need sleep! I woke up at 12:25am this morning to the sounds of sirens in a very close proximity to our house. It was a nice night out in our neck of the woods and we had our windows open, so I could hear everything outside quite clearly. Very soon after the sirens stopped I heard, yelling, screaming, and some man loudly yelling, “Help…..help me,” and then screaming in pain.
Quickly realizing that this was not a good situation in the middle of the night, I promptly woke my weary hubby, and immediately closed the kid’s windows so they would not be subjected to this senseless act. We both listened out the window as to what was going on. I did call 911, and they informed me that there was a “major police incident” in my neighborhood…..this was not very reassuring! We heard the screaming for about 5-8 minutes, then relative silence, except for police radios.
About 45 minutes later when we thought things were calming down, we heard the loud, booming voice of a cop who is head of a local canine unit, basically saying, if anyone is in the house please get out now, we will be sending our dogs in, and they will attack you! ( More comforting words in the middle of the night!!).
Finally just as I was starting to think about going back to sleep…….we see flashlights behind our house( our house backs up to a woods with a creek), I hear the sounds of a dog running in the creek, and the voices of several police officers. They were obviously searching for someone. They then came upon dear son’s mega cool fort in the woods. I heard them dismantle the fort to look inside, and then heard the officer yell, “all clear.”
Well needless to say, I had serious problems going back to sleep! I really never got back to sleep, you know how it is, every stinking noise you hear you think it’s this guy they were looking for.
We finally found out this morning ( when I awoke to find news crews outside on my street) that 2 homes were broken into. In the one house, the guy jumped out of a 2nd floor window to elude police, then ran next door, and proceeded to break into that house by breaking through a glass door. The guy was then caught, and injured pretty badly due to jumping out of a window on the 2nd floor, and he was cut up from all the glass of the door he broke through.
And folks we live in a nice neighborhood, in a beautiful, small town, family friendly, conservative community.
Thought for the day…..Make sure you lock your doors at night and turn on outside lights. Many people in our community still do not lock their doors!
And then it hits you………..I need sleep, my weary head is drooping and we just ordered pizza for dinner! Good night to all.
When I was younger and MY mom would sit down in a chair and let out a sigh, and say, “oh this feels nice”…..I didn’t get it………. but NOW I do!
When I was younger and MY mom would then fall asleep for a short nap in that same chair….I didn’t get it………. but NOW I do!
When my mom hung up her college degree, framed in a nice frame, in the laundry room and proclaimed, something to the effect of, ” Four years of college and this is where I use my degree!” I didn’t get it…..but NOW I do!
When my mom would cook us a nice dinner, and us kids would all want to eat quickly and get back outside to play, and mom would make us stay for another 10 minutes….I didn’t get it…..but NOW I do!
When my mom would meticulously help me with the grammar, spelling and punctuation on high school and college papers…and I would get mad at her for being so “picky.” …………… I didn’t get it……but NOW I do!
When my mom would faithfully attend all my track meets, and cheer and support me and get so excited for me when I would win………..I didn’t get it….but NOW I do!
When my mom would grow tired of our incessant goofiness, our arguing with each other, and our loud music………….I didn’t get it…………….but NOW I do.
When my mom would complain that she couldn’t even see the red carpet in my brother’s room, because it was always covered with dirty clothes……I didn’t get it……………but NOW I do!
When my mom would leave notes in my room letting me know she loved me……I didn’t get it…..but NOW I do.
So here is YOUR note mom! Technology has changed, and I can leave you a note on my blog, not a nice, handwritten one on your nightstand. But the message remains constant.
I love you MOM, and I am so glad “I get it now!” It makes me appreciate you even more! 🙂
And Happy Mother’s Day to all of you other moms who now “get it.”
Proverbs 31:29 Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all!
I was riding my bike on my usual 9.5 mile hilly trek through the beautiful countryside this morning when a tanker truck went whizzing by me. I only travel on one main road, the rest of the ride is on back roads in farm country, so this tanker truck caught me off guard a bit. I hate when these big trucks get too close to me! But I continued pressing on in my ride, finally I turned off the main road onto a nice, safe backroad. As I glanced ahead at the upcoming rolling, farmland I saw something moving out in a field to my left. I instantly recognized the moving object as the tanker truck that passed me. As I pondered to myself…. what on earth is a tanker truck doing driving in the middle of some farmer’s field? At that point I was instantaneously overwhelmed by the most putrid smell. Since I am out there riding my bike to stay in shape, I was breathing hard and breathing in the sickening smell at a fast rate! As I am gagging, I notice coming out of the back of this new, shiny, silver truck a thick, brown, liquid. It was then I saw written on the side of the truck these words, “liquid fertilizer.” Ewwwwww, Ahhhhhh, gross!
So now I know what the smell is. Please can someone tell me why a farmer wants to spread liquid manure on his crops. I admit I am a bit of a city girl, but this makes NO sense to me!
This gives new meaning to the term “farm fresh produce!”
Can you imagine the guy who does this for a living….Is it some guy with a big family? Does he have a family rule like, kids don’t flush the toilet, daddy will be right there with my shovel! Do they invite friends over for dinner and feed them a high fiber dinner in hopes of earning “some healthy profits” in their toilet?????
Where exactly does this liquid fertilizer come from anyway? That is a good question to ponder as your are enjoying your farm fresh, just picked corn on the cob this summer……Mmmmm was this corn at one time covered with liquid POOP!???
Well the “liquid poop dispenser” seemed to cover several of the fields on my ride this morning, it was one of my more STINKY rides!
Ok, Ok, I know I am getting carried away here, but I can assure you if you smelled what I smelled this morning you too would be looking for some way to humor yourself. 🙂
Fresh, country air seems to have lost some of it’s hype for me!
Have a good day everyone! 🙂
Well since I posted about G-Wit and also displayed a pic of dd, I decided to make it girl week on my blog! All my posts will be about girl stuff.……maybe next week will be boy week. Lord knows boys and girls can be so different…..then again so can husbands and wives. 🙂 But that is the way God designed it to be. 🙂
Anyway, here is another great girl book ( for the 8-12 yo range). It’s called The Princess Kiss, it’s an enchanting, girl book about preserving your purity. But it is presented in a very kid friendly way. We had my hubby read dd the book, and I took a picture of the two of them reading the book together, printed out the picture, hung one in her room, and the other one we wrote the date on it, and pasted it in the front of the book. The book is displayed on her dresser. They will also read it again together, but we made a big deal out of the first time reading it together. My dd enjoyed the story but, was also able to glean the other meaning of never giving away that first, special kiss to just any boy that comes along. Remember, we need to TRAIN our kids according to biblical values, and this is just another tool in the “training toolbox.” 🙂
BTW, did you notice………….I linked the book to CBD where you can buy it. It’s my first time linking something. It was really quite simple, but it’s those little things in life I get excited about it. 🙂
G-WIT, that is what M and I call our special time together. It stands for Godly Women in Training, and that is what we are doing together, training her to be a Godly women. And just like anything you want to do well in life you need to be trained, and then practice what you are learning. So that is what we do, we work together to train her to be a Godly women someday and learn how to be a Godly girl along the way.
My dd is 9, almost the big 10, and for the last 2 years now we have been getting together about once a month to go out for breakfast and read, and discuss a book by another mom, Carol Fiddler called, “A Girl of Beauty” Building Character in Young Girls. It’s one of the FEW books I have found for girls in the 8-12 age range. This book focuses on issues like truthfulness, careful words, service, disappointments, ideals etc. Each topic is only about 3-4 pages and is based on scripture, and Godly truths. I like the book, and have found it to be provocative, and a foundation for good discussion between my daughter and I. I like how it’s short and to the point and is able to keep her interest. After this book I plan to use a book by Dannah Gresh, called, “The Secret Keeper.” I like this book also, but don’t think M is quite ready for some of the issues she discusses yet, but I am sure she will before I know it. 🙂
I will be sharing several other neat lessons on training girls to be Godly women in the next several weeks….months ahead etc. I taught a wonderful group of 4th-6th grade girls on Wed. night through the Girls Alive program this year, so I will share some of those lessons, along with a program a friend and I wrote for the girls in our 6th grade Sunday School class. We would meet with the girls 6-7 times a year and present a “girl only lesson” on many of the attributes of the ever popular Proverbs 31 women. We assigned each characteristic we talked about a color, and the girls made a necklace, with beads corresponding to the color we assigned each characteristic. This way when they wear their necklaces, they are reminded of the characteristics we have discussed with them. The necklaces turned out to look pretty hip, so I think the girls will be wearing them.
As a public school elementary school teacher I see daily how young girls are so easily ensnared, and engrossed by this world, and are engaging in the things that are far from the ideals and values of the bible. If I want my dd to follow hard after the Lord I need to do all I can to train her for “battle.”
There is a way that seems right to man, but in the end it leads to death. Proverbs 14:12
Even a child is known by his actions, by whether his conduct is pure and right. Proverbs 20:11
TRAIN a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it. Proverbs 22:6
As a rookie blogger note – I need to learn how to link to a website that might have that Carol Fiddler or Dannah Gresh book…….I will have to check into that….bear with me, I am still learning. But I must admit, I am enjoying being a bloggin moma!
My new saying is “bloggin is good for my old noggin!!” 🙂
“Mom is my baseball uniform clean for my game?” ” Oh shoot I forgot it’s still in the washing machine, do you mind wearing it a little wet?”
“Honey did you buy more OJ, remember I told you last night we were out?” “Oh shoot I forgot and I was just at the grocery store picking up something else!!”
” Mom did you get food for my guinea pig, remember I told you last week he needed more, I try to tell you a week ahead of time since I know you tend to forget” (Got to love my dear daughter)
Ok you get the picture, despite my efforts to stay on top of the one million things going on in my house, I at times struggle with this. I tried to come up with a medical reason for this, and after searching for some kind of medical explanation, and finding nothing, I decided to come up with my own. I have Chronic Foggy Brain Syndrome! And I can tell you this (Warning- Men may want to stop reading at this point) my FBS is worse during PMS!
But as the bible reminds me “I am fearfully and wonderfully made” and even during times of FBS with PMS I am still fearfully and wonderfully made. So I have learned to laugh at myself a little, pray a lot, and “rejoice in the Lord always,” even during FBS & PMS!!!
