I will be taking a blogging break for several days and spending a much needed break at the beach! We were supposed to take a week vacation to Maine this summer, but SportTman is trying out for an elite baseball team, and the try-outs are the same time we were scheduled for vacation…..UGH! I was so upset when we realized this conflict of schedules. We are not a family with tons of money and we don’t take elaborate vacations, but I truly believe every family NEEDS time together, without friends, without the usual distractions, and quality down time together. So we decided to squeeze in a couple days at the beach, and we are going camping for a night next week also……although it’s not the same as Maine, it will work, since our goal is time together and having fun together.
As a mom in order to relax I must get out of the house! Otherwise, I see laundry that needs folding, a floor that needs to be mopped, weeds to be pulled etc…… ( the list is endless isn’t it!). So I am looking forward to time away from my busy house, riding the waves in the ocean with the kids, and taking a long walk on the beach with my husband!
I love this song by Ten Shekel Shirt……”there is something about the ocean that makes me rise up and praise You……..” There is just something about that ocean that truly makes me reflect on the greatness of the Lord! I am anticipating a time of reflection, renewal and relaxation!
Ocean – Ten Shekel Shirt
Sorry I didn’t post a winner on Friday, we were at the beach for the day and did not get home until after midnight.
So after 328 comments, the one and only winner is comment #53, Like I Was Saying.
I have not visited her blog before, so I am already making a new blogging friend. I really want to try to drop by many of the blogs that entered the giveway……so many blogs, so little time. It’s so wild how many blogs are out there, it’s a whole new world!
Anyway ladies, I wish I had more chocolate to giveaway, it’s been a fun week.
May God Bless all your chocolate pursuits!! 🙂 LOL!
My theory on chocolate and women, will soon be published in America’s Scientific Physiology Journal. After conducting extensive research on this subject I have come to an astounding conclusion. I will now announce on this blog for the first time a new equation for proving women’s affection for chocolate…………..
Chocolate + Women = Happy Camper
Women – Chocolate= Admission to Mental Institution
Profound isn’t it…..
Yes ladies it’s true, you dig YOUR chocolate! You are fanatical, passionate, and demanding when it comes to chocolate.
There have been times in my life I have wondered, am I the only one who acts a certain way, or thinks a certain way. This week I have quickly come to realize I am not the only woman out there who loves the “C” word! I have almost 300 comments that demonstate evidence proclaiming a womans need for Chocolate. 🙂
Which has lead to me wonder if others also…………..
- let the socks stay in the dryer for several cycles hoping the matching sock will just magically appear
- write something on their “to do” list that has already been done, just for the pleasure of crossing it off!
- snack and pick at the dinner as you are cooking it so much that by the time dinner is ready your not that hungry.
- fall asleep in your child’s bed, sometimes before they do, when you are putting them to sleep.
- call someone and then forget who you called
- love getting a hair cut, it’s feels like a mini massage, costs less, and can be so relaxing.
- keep your own “personal” stash of chocolate hidden from the rest of the family.
So are there others out there who are like minded, or am I unique in my “quirks”? 🙂
BTW, since we are talking about chocolate, click here to read more about why I named my blog Jesus and Dark Chocolate, it was one of my first posts.
Your friend in chocolate addictions
Yes ladies, it’s true, I am giving away chocolate!! Shannon at Rocks in my Dryer is hosting a giveaway carnival this week. Although I’m a bit late hopping on the bandwagon, chocolate is always worth the wait!
I will send the winner of this giveaway a gift card to one of the finest ( yet unknown) chocolate companies around. The Wilbur Chocolate Company makes these little gems called Wilbur Buds, which are similar to Hershey Kisses, but creamier! They truly just melt in your mouth, and you will have to make the agonizing decision over choosing dark chocolate or milk chocolate, they are both so good! They have many other chocolate products but the Wilbur Buds are a perennial family favorite for us! Don’t you wish you could grab one right off your computer screen at this moment!!! 🙂 Since I was a little worried about shipping chocolate in the summer I decided to go the gift card route and let the “professionals” take care of it! I will be giving away a $15 gift card to Wilbur Chocolate! So leave a comment below and you are entered! I wish I could send a gift card to everyone! Thanks for stopping by my little corner of the blog world.
I had the nicest time with the inventor and sportTman the other day. A kind neighbor was cleaning out his garage and brought over 2 huge inner tubes for the kids to have for free! So we loaded the big tubes into the car, and headed to a nearby creek for some serious tubing! It was a beautiful day and a beautiful spot!
The inventor enjoying that peaceful easy feeling!
Here are the kids floating down the creek
I walked along in the creek behind the kids, and took pictures, that is NOT a purse I am carrying on my shoulder it’s a camera bag. I didn’t want anyone to think I took my purse with me for walking in the creek! LOL!
SportTman running upstream with the tube after his long, relaxing float down the creek.
Total Cost for the day
Inner Tubes – free
Creek – Free
Enjoying the great outdoors – Free
Time spent together – Priceless
The sister duo at 5 minutes for Mom are giving away milk……lots of it….$300 worth!
I can assure you this blogging family drinks LOTS of milk……..about 5 gallons each week. Every Friday I go to my local grocery store, use my age 40+ womenly biceps muscles and load 5 gallons into my cart ( along with 3 gallons of OJ). I get my weekly workout in by pushing that cart through the store. We have thought about purchasing a cow to make things easier, but a free milk giveway would suit us well also. And to make the giveaway even sweeter, it’s Horizon’s Organic milk. I have thought for sometime now that we should switch to Organic milk, but it is so expensive. So this giveaway would be perfect for us!
While I am talking about links, my dear blogging friend Elizabeth at the Whole Family nominated me for the Rockin Blogger Girl, I just haven’t had time to nominate others yet, but I did want to say Thanks to Elizabeth, she is another fun, bloggin mom. She also has quite the story up on her blog about a recent visit to a restaurant………I am sure many of you moms can relate to it!
……..but really I can’t! God has really been teaching me that it is less about ME and more about relying on Him! I had the joy of having a colonoscopy and endoscopy done today. I was fretting over the prep work that needs to be done for this procedure and feeling quite sorry for myself. (Trust me you don’t want me to go into details about the prep work, however I will say this, I now know why the word “the runs” was coined, I did a lot of running to the bathroom last night!!)
I was pondering all of this as I was sitting in my car at a traffic light, listening to The David Crowder Band in the background, and I suddenly said to myself in one of those
“I am women, hear me roar” moments….I can do this! I can do this! I actually think I even said it out loud. But as soon as I had my Helen Reddy, “I Am Women” moment, God quickly reminded me, of Philippians 4:13, I can do everything THROUGH HIM who gives me strength!
So much for my “I Am Women” moment, I am reminded once again, I am a Godly women, and I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength, wisdom and guidance.
I always loved reading The Little Engine That Could to my kids, but I need to remind them, and myself to rely on the Lord’s power, and strength to see us through this journey we call life………..and to see us through a colonoscopy/endoscopy. The story should read, “I think I can, I think I can, with God’s strength I know I can!”
For you curious souls, the whole colonoscopy/endoscopy process wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. I do have several “issues”, will probably have to take Prilosec the rest of my life, and I need to follow-up with a Dr. on several things…… but I guess I can live with that.

We had a great visit with my brother-in-law and sister-in-law, and their 3 kids. Even though the cousins are much older then my kiddos, the cousins were kind and gracious and hung out with the inventor and sportTman much to their joy, and satisfaction.
This was taken at the spot where Lincoln gave the Gettysburg Address.
We toured Gettysburg, ate too much, sat out on the deck to all hours of the night, watched the movie “National Treasure”, rode go-karts, went out in our canoe at a nearby lake, and picked blackberries at the lake, played lots of sports, went to church together, ordered delicious pizza, and had a wonderful visit.
The relatives came….and it was GREAT!
Years ago in a weak mommy moment, after the kids incessant prodding I bought a peach tree for $10 at an end-of-the-season sale. I brought it home, planted it in a horrible spot for peach tree, and THEN looked up how to care for it on the internet . As I researched how to get this tree to bear fruit, I quickly realized how naive I was. I was stunned to find in order to allow my peach tree to produce quality fruit I must prune it severely. The excessive pruning sounded like it would destroy the tree. I thought this was ridiculous and the peach tree growers didn’t know what they were talking about. ( Yeah I know major prideful moment).
Surely they didn’t mean to really prune it that much did they?
My tree went on to die, probably because I did not prune it enough, it was so hard to cut the tree way back.
Several nights ago while putting my daughter to bed, she was giving me a long litany of things that did not go well for her that day. She was complaining about having a bad day, and I blurted out, “God must be pruning you honey, he wants you to grow into something beautiful.” I then proceeded to tell her about our peach tree ( she of course had long forgotten that we even had one!). I explained how pruning a tree is very hard to do, yet when it is done right it can produce a beautiful fruit.
But the inventor complained, “well I don’t like being pruned if this is what it’s like, it’s not fun!”
But then I asked her of what happens to the tree after it has been pruned…….”it grows yummy peaches” she meekly muttered out.
She reluctantly smiled…..she got it……and so did I. Up until that conversation I had long forgotten that peach tree. But it was a timely reminder for me also.
Pruning is not fun
Pruning is painful
Pruning is difficult
But I want to produce Godly fruit in my life, so Lord get out those pruning shears and do what needs to be done!!!
This was taken in Northern Vt, in the Lake Champlain region

I was on an unexpected 2 week hiatus from riding my bike due to migraines, and attending the Creation Festival. But I am back!!!!!! I rode 5 miles yesterday, and 6 today. I drank an entire 24 oz bottle of Propel during each ride, it’s so stinkin hot out!!! If I could only configure an air conditioning system into my bike helmet…….. I will need to talk to my daughter…….the inventor.
Check out Mama Bright’s site, she is encouraging all of us ladies to stay fit through the summer!
