There is no place like home…..

Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz certainly summed up my thoughts this past weekend. My thoughts turned to the part in movie when she tapped her heels together at the end of the movie and repeated several times, “there is no place like home, there is no place like home…..”

I felt like that this weekend. After being gone the last 3 weekends in a row ( soccer tournament, 25 year HS reunion in Md, and NY for my brother’s wedding). It was so nice to stay put this weekend. I felt like I could finally get organized, exercise some, chill out, make pancakes, wear my jammies around the house and walk around the house with my coffee, read the paper, go to good ole Wal-Mart and just dawdle a bit at home. It does a body and mind good to enjoy just being at home! I also enjoyed my church on Sunday immensely. I have not been there for the past 3 Sundays and I missed it!

The worship ministered to my heart so much more then normal, my SS class spoke to my soul and my pastor preached an excellent sermon. It was good to be at church….my home church.

……….There is no place like home, there is no place like home!!

Thought for the day – everyone needs a home they can find love and security in, and a church home that can speak and encourage their hearts!

Hey…Where ya been?

I have been MIA from the blog world for sometime now. But I am certain if I had all of my wonderful blog friends over for a cup of coffee some morning soon, you would start the conversation with someone like this. “Hey I see you haven’t posted for awhile, have you been sick, or were you away, were the kids sick, or were you just busy with all those sports your kids do?” I’d probably pour a little more creamer into my coffee take a sip and respond, “Yes to all your questions!!”

Yes I had the killer cold, so I went to bed very early for several nights. That is usually my blog/chillin time. So sleep won out over my blog. The killer cold actually did not last real long, I think because I was good, and went to bed early several nights in a row!

Yes, I also went away. I was away last weekend for my brother’s wedding!!! Congrats to my brother and his new wife! It was a beautiful wedding on a gorgeous fall day in the Catskills of NY. The leaves were peaking at their most vibrant color, and the setting was top-notch. Also spending time with my family is always a good thing in my book.

Yes, my daughter was sick with the evil stomach flu. We have officially labeled her the “throw-up Queen!” But of my 2 kids, she handles it so well, and is a real trooper.

Yes, I have been busy with all those crazy sports my kids do! SportTman just finished his Middle School soccer season last Thurs. and now starts open gym for basketball and The inventor continues to play soccer. Plus SportTman is still practicing for this elite baseball team he is on. So we have been going to lots of practices and games.

I am hoping to someday soon see the bottom of my laundry room floor, right now the dirty laundry pile is so high I actually stood on the top of it the other day to get something down from a shelf. So once I get on top of the laundry, get out the scarf my cleaning lady sucked up accidently into my central vac, unpack from the weekend away, and find time to go see my doctor about my high blood pressure I will be back blogging more regularly. ๐Ÿ™‚

In the meantime I thought you would enjoy the pics from the Catskills.

On the deck at my brother’s house, aren’t the trees beautiful?

This was taken from our hotel room, early Sat. morning.

My family, we are all so happy my brother finally got married!

Walking in the Woods

I love every season! And right now I am really enjoying Fall. It’s FINALLY cool, and the leaves are starting to turn those lovely fall colors. Just this morning The Inventor and I went for a long walk with the dog. It was one of those picturesque, cool, crisp fall mornings.

The other day I was walking around in the woods behind our house enjoying one of those brief still and quiet moments in the woods. I stood and watched the leaves fall from the trees, I caught a whiff of that “fallen leaves smell.” Do you know the smell I mean? As a kid we always made huge leaf piles and jumped in them for hours. So there is something about the smell of leaves that I love in the fall. (Maybe Yankee Candles will soon make a “Leaf Pile” candle just for me). Well as I was enjoying my walk in the woods and savoring the quiet and beauty of the moment, listening to the leaves crunch under my foot. I suddenly heard a not so pleasant sound and an instant smell………crunch, crunch…..SQUISH! Eewwwwwww I smell dog poop. Yep in my lovely, reflective moment, I stepped in dog poop!

Isn’t that just how life is though………just when things are going well for you, God sends a little dog poop your way to remind you to trust, rely and seek Him even more. It is so true, when things are going well we often tend to blow God off a bit. But it’s during those difficult times that we cling fervently to Him. It’s also a time of growth and a glorious reminder of the big picture of what really matters in this life.

~Philippians 3:7-8

But whatever was to my profit I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. What is more I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord for whose sake I have lost all things.~

Knowing and serving Christ in this life is what truly matters. If it means bringing some dog poop ( tough times) into my life so that I can better serve Him, then bring on the dog poop!

How to make a purse from car inner tubes!

Don’t you love the terms or phrases that bring people to your blog. I often get lots of searches with words like dark chocolate, Jesus, Louie Giglio, Corrie Ten Boom, Godly Girls etc. But today I got one that said, “How to make a purse from car inner tubes.”

Do you think this could be the start of a new fashion statement? Maybe my blog is on the cutting edge of fashion!! Wow what an honor, I can’t wait to buy an inner tube purse, I would like one in pink please!! ๐Ÿ™‚ Ok, Ok I was kidding and really thought it was all a joke until………….I found the picture below! ๐Ÿ™‚

These things really exist……..who would have thought!! I thought it was a wacky search with someone with a creative mind. Well that cute little purse below sells for $160!

The Throw-up Soccer Tournament

The Inventor had a big soccer tournament this weekend. It was an 1 1/2 hours away, and our family and most of the other families from the team were staying at a hotel together. The Inventor played 2 games yesterday, and they lost both of them, ugh! It was also very HOT out for this time of year. The leaves are changing but the weather sure isn’t! After the losses we all headed back to the hotel. It was a nice place with a pool, hot tub, exercise room etc….. The team had a great time playing together in the pool and running amok in the hotel. ๐Ÿ™‚ Most of the team headed out to dinner together, but we wanted some family time together so we journeyed to a nearby Cracker Barrel for dinner. After a yummy dinner we hung out at the hotel with the soccer team and went to bed by 10:00. I slept quite well until 2am, when The Inventor awoke me with the cry of ” I don’t feel good!!!!” She then proceeded to throw up, and then deposited the rest of her dinner in the hotel toilet at least 4 more times before we decided she is not playing today and headed home.

Don’t you hate when your kids are sick? As a mom I feel so bad for her. She feels horrible and she is disappointed that she can not play in the 2 games today with her team. BTW, I am wondering if she didn’t get food poisoning from the mammoth bacon cheeseburger she had at Cracker Barrel last night! She seems to feel ok except for the throwing up. We shall see!

Two days ago I came home from school fully feeling the evil effects of the dreaded monthly curse. I wanted more then anything to take a nap…….until bedtime! But as many of you moms know, you can’t always just lay down and take a 7 hour nap. Thus began the battle betweenย  “Dee Serve” and “Will.”ย  “Dee Serve” kept telling me, that since I had a rough day I deserved to veg out, watch a little TV, order out pizza for dinner and sleep for awhile.

On the other hand my good friend “Will” somehow got me motivated, and I actually went out and rode my bike for a quick 5 mile ride. “Will” is something else! And after I rode my bike I really thanked “Will” because I felt much better, stretched out a bit and had a renewed energy for the rest of the night. Instead of pizza we had chicken on the grill, italian noodles, broccoli, and fresh fruit!

Thus continues the on going exercise saga, and as is usually the case, once I make myself get out there and exercise I always feel so much better and I am glad I did it. So to all my dear blogging friends, let’s all make an effort to get out there and exercise…………….. even when we don’t feel like it!!!!!! ๐Ÿ™‚
