Did you hear the latest?

Laughing Through the Tears and TCC got into on their blogs the other day. Both were busting on each other about something Classic Mama said on her blog about Liza’s Eyeview. Well then The Riding Pony got involved and she emailed Lessons from the Laundry to see what she thought about the whole thing. And before you know it everyone got so disgusted they stopped blogging. Can you believe it!!??

Yes ladies I am talking about GOSSIP! Of course none of the nonsense above is true. I thought it would be a fun way to promote some of my blogging buddies while making a point about Gossip! I get so frustrated with the way women gossip and talk on and on about other people. One of the things I have noticed lately is just how much women love to talk about other women. I am constantly amazed at how mean, rude and disrespectful people can be when talking about someone who isn’t around. I hear it daily at my job and I even hear it in social circles at church. But I must say the christians are at least nicer gossips……….not as cruel as others are, but does that make it right?

Here is the official dictionary definition of gossip –

~idle talk or rumor, esp. about the personal or private affairs of others

And while I am being the dictionary queen here…….idle means ~of no real worth, importance, or significance. So gossip refers to idle talk, meaning it’s talk that has no real worth or importance. Can you imagine all the great things we can talk about with others if we spent less time with idle talk! It really has no real worth and it can often cause more damage then good.

The bible reminds us in Proverbs 16:28
28A perverse man ( or women) stirs up dissension,
and a gossip separates close friends
. and

Proverbs 20:19
19A gossip betrays a confidence;
so avoid a man who talks too much.

Our christian integrity demands that our words should match our lives. And our words should not only be trueβ€”they should edify. How would the words from your mouth measure up to anyone who might happen to be within earshot? Do your words encourage, inspire, and edify? I find the more I am immersed in the world of constant gossip the more I am convicted to encourage and inspire others to draw near to God, and follow hard after him, not a the latest rumor that comes down the pike. Encourage one another is a far call from idle talk.

“Simple people talk about other people.
Average people talk about things.
Wise people talk about ideas.”

Ok, ok, ah sorry………..ah……yea…….I see that I am now firmly planted on top of a “soapbox” sorry, I got a bit carried away. πŸ™‚

  1. Thank you for addressing this sin, yes sin!!

Gossip hurts, I know that for a fact. Gossip has infiltrated God’s Bride, and He is definitly NOT PLEASED. Gossip is gossip, no matter how “nicely” it is said. Satan will use gossip to divide friends and families!!!!

When I was working, it was rampant!!! I hated it. I hate it (gossip, not the people engaged in it) even more when it comes out of my fellow brothers and sisters in Christ. We are called to come up higher with words of life, speaking life to those and about those who may be struggling.

“Death and life are in the power of the tongue; those who love it will eat its fruit.” Proverbs 18:21

Notice the warning on the second half of the verse. Not only do our words bring life or death to others or situations, BUT WE EAT THE FRUIT OF WHAT WE HAVE SAID!!!

Gossip hurts the Gossiper, as much as the Gossipee(I know this is not a real word).

Can you tell this subject is also one of my soapboxes?

  2. Thanks for the comments Beautiful Grace. I like that Proverbs 18:21 verse. I never thought of it the way you stated, that we also eat the fruit of what we have said. Good point! And it’s also true that there is great power in the tongue, power to hurt, or to build up.
