Things I would LOVE to hear at my house……..

I have been a pretty lousy bloggy buddy lately. I just have been too busy and TIRED from this Fifth Disease. However, there are 6 days of school left, and then I know I will be an involved blogger again once school is out!

Until then I was thinking about some things I would like to hear at my house……..

“Can you please show me how to put the toilet paper on the roll again, I know I never do it, but I want to learn to do it right.”

“Mom, can I please have more broccoli!”

SportTman to his friends, ” I better go in guys, I got a lot of homework to finish and I don’t want to wait until the last minute.

“Congratulations you just won the lottery”

” I just cleaned my room.”

“Would you like a 1/2 hour foot rub?”

SprotTman after winning a baseball tournament – “Great idea mom, this will be memorable moment, so I would love to get my picture taken with my sister.”

…….quiet! πŸ™‚

One gorgeous weekend, and one frigid ocean!

We were at the beach for SportTman ‘s baseball tournament, at the “Sports at the Beach” complex in Rehoboth Beach, DE. After 7 games in 3 days, his team won the championship! It was a fun, weekend…but I am tired!

I thought I would show what happens when you swim in the ocean on Memorial Day weekend.

This is how my kids started……do you see the excitement in their eyes, they were so excited to make their first plunge into the ocean. SportTman lasted a record 20 min. The Inventor did not fare quite as well…..but they sure had FUN!

This is what you look like after spending 10 min. in the frigid early season ocean water

The Inventor’s final solution to shaking and freezing!

Snake handling and Fifth Disease

Just found out today the cause of what I thought was a weird spring flu. I had joint pain, a fever, hand and feet swelling, TIRED, rash etc. I have Fifth Disease, normally a childhood illness. It’s one of those things that if adults get it, it’s worse then when kids get it. So my symptoms should begin to clear up, they say in1-3 months. At least it explains why I have not felt right since I had a fever, and headache back on my birthday on May 1st. So this just gives me an excuse to nap more….and of course it makes me even more eager for school to be done. We are done June 9th!!!

Do you think the wild snake handling caused my illness? What do you think, am I cool or what holding that cute corn snake? The picture was taken in my classroom at school, whew it was a good thing I wore lots of deodorant that day! Actually, I had a really cool guy come do a reptile presentation for my students, we all loved it!

What do you think of the picture mom??? Remember how I used to be so afraid of snakes? πŸ™‚

Cleaning White Baseball pants

I have never done a WFMW, but I have been wanting to get in on the fun. And if you are here reading this post about getting WHITE baseball pants clean then we must have these things in common.

  • You have a son who plays baseball
  • You have thought evil thoughts about the MAN/coach who thought white baseball pants “look really sharp on the boys.”
  • You have tried everything to get that dirt and red clay from the infield out of those pants.

So I am glad you are here.

Here are my son’s white baseball pants after a rainy weekend tournament. And after trying Tide, Spray and Wash, and soaking the pants in vinegar. I found this little gem of a product called “Iron Out.” It has done the best to get that red clay out of white baseball pants. They were not perfectly white, but they were close to perfect. And that works for me!!!

But Now…….

Our pastor preached on these 2 simple yet powerful words from the bible this weekend. I thought I would share them.

BUT NOW in Christ Jesus you who once were far away have been brought near though the blood of Christ. Ephesians 2:1

Once you were not a people, BUT NOW you are the people of God; once you had not received mercy, BUT NOW you have received mercy. I Peter 2:10

For you were once darkness, BUT NOW you are a light in the Lord….. Ephesians 5:8

And from Amazing Grace

I once was lost BUT NOW I’m found, was blind BUT NOW I see!

Praise God for BUT NOW…..We were all once lost in sin, BUT NOW Christ has set us free!

Bloggy Busy Break….

Well gang sorry I haven’t been out visiting everyone as much lately. It’s been a little crazy around here. I do miss blog hopping! Plus I just haven’t been feeling well ever since I had a spring flu 2 weeks ago, I just can’t seem to shake it. I’ve had some unusual symptoms, joint pain and swelling so I went for blood work this morning. Although I feel good today! πŸ™‚ We shall see what the Dr. has to say.

It’s also a hard time spiritually, why is it when I get busy, I spend less time with the Lord. It’s like the things of this world are crying out for my immediate attention, while the Lord quietly, patiently, and steadfastly remains faithful to me, but I chose to ignore Him because the other things are screaming out for my attention. The busy schedule, and things that need to be done require my immediate and constant attention. And I let time with the Lord slip by for the other things. I know this is just a season, and it does get better, but right now I am going a bit crazy.

I think I need summer vacation! πŸ™‚ It is interesting thou, my times with the Lord do seem to be more meaningful, they are just less frequent. Life is such a balancing act, and right now I am having a bit of trouble with my balancing…..but there is only 18 more days of school! And then time for the 3 R’s….renewal, refreshment, revival!

Lamentations 3:22-24 The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases, his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is thy faithfulness. “The LORD is my portion,” says my soul, “therefore I will hope in him.”

Momku…not a Haiku, but a momku

Here is what my week has been like. I have written it in a new poetry form known as the “Momku”.

Driving to practices

busy, baseball, buying food

laundry, stained white baseball pants, smelly soccer uniforms, filling up a leaky tire

making dinner, eating on the deck, sausage on the grill

driving still

fixing the leaky faucet, trying to exercise, trimming bushes

driving….. more laundry

attending school open house, filling out forms, getting italian ices at Ritas

laundry again…..driving…

forgotten……. time with the Lord

What I have learned since I became a mom….

I have been reading some wonderful posts about Mother’s Day lately, and it got me thinking. Since next weekend is Mother’s Day, and as is the case on most spring weekends, SportTman and Drums will be at a baseball tournament, and The Inventor and I will be home for her soccer games. So I am not sure how much celebrating will be going on at our house. πŸ™‚ But I did want to at least write about being a mom. Two different sites are hosting wonderful give-aways and fun mom stuff. Check out Elise and Liza for more info.

I became a mom 13 years ago after a long and difficult labor, SportTman was finally born via an emergency c-section. I don’t really remember enjoying holding him for the first time, I was simply too exhausted. But that moment did forever change the women I am. I have learned a few things over the years and thought I would share them.

I have learned that I love the sound of a baseball being hit by a metal bat, it means baseball season has arrived. I do love watching SportTman play!

I learned that peanut butter really does get gum out of hair

I have learned how to get up frequently in the middle of the night, and then go right back to sleep.

I have learned that no matter how often you put socks in a dryer together, you still can’t find a match for them at the end of the dryer cycle

I have learned a great deal about trusting the Lord with my children, and not fearing for their future, but trusting God to guide and direct them. Although I also learned that I am still working on this one!

I have learned that boys don’t bring home their gym clothes from school, and this is normal.

I have learned that my house does not need to be perfectly clean, picked up, and neat on a daily basis. Although a weekly basis would be nice!

I have learned to like dogs. I used to be afraid of those dirty, slobbering pets. But we have a sweet chocolate lab that the kids really wanted and I am thankful for her.

I have learned that when playing baseball with your son if you are trying to field a ground ball, you should run towards a ground ball, not let it come to you. Otherwise the ball will hit your shins, and give you BIG bruises!

I have learned to sing tons of Veggie Tales songs.

I have learned that if you continue to serve broccoli to kids when they are little, even after they spit it out and say it’s so gross. They will eventually learn to eat it.

I have learned that children grow up very quickly.

I have also learned that when kids grow quickly, they eat a lot.

I have learned that I don’t mind cleaning up my own kids throw-up, but to clean up their friends vomit…..that is so gross!

I have learned that when traveling long distances in a vehicle with kids, to bring plastic bags for car sick kids. I have also learned how easy it is to dispose of throw up once it’s tightly tied in a plastic bag, but that it is also important to check for holes in the bag first!

I have learned that when you climb to the top of a tree with your daughter, that you can have a really, nice, intimate conversation together.

I have learned that hot dogs can explode into tiny pieces in a microwave.

I have learned that boys can actually get semi-permanent dirt stains on their ankles.

I have learned to love Walmart.

I’ve learned that long hikes in a quiet woods, or bike rides together, or camping out together are some of the best bonding times.

I have learned that it is ok for a 4 year old to throw -up 28 times in a 2 hour period. That just like the Dr. said her stomach would settle down.

I have learned that some of the best toys are big empty boxes on rainy days, play-doh, books, and empty plastic containers.

I have learned that for fun your can put food coloring in your child’s bath and they will get clean and not turn green.

I have learned that at an early age little boys learn to scream at the TV during football season just like their dad!

I have learned to rely on coffee more.

I have learned above all to embrace this bible verse Deuteronomy 6:5-7

~Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on our children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. ~

Very random thoughts…..

Beware…this is random…remember I warned you. πŸ™‚

I am home sick today with some kind of crazy spring flu. I woke up 2 nights ago, freezing. I promptly put on all the winter clothes I could find, and heated up two herbal hot packs to stuff down my shirt to stay warm. After that I soon discovered I had a fever, and soon began to take off all the clothes I had just put on. I missed school yesterday also. Who gets the flu in May?

The first day of May is today, and that brings up a whole new topic. Today is my birthday….yep 29 again! This is my 15th time being 29. It’s a fun age. So I get to stay home sick from school for my b-day.

Hubby did get me this wonderful, relaxing hammock swing for my b-day the other day. I am so excited to put it together and put it under my deck, where there is a nice brick patio with a beautiful view of our woods. Oh, and that is not my fancy backyard, just a pic of the swing from a website. πŸ™‚Β  But doesn’t that swing just scream…come and sit and relax!

I am feeling better today, at least I am not sleeping my life away today. I actually ate some food and made a little coffee this morning. Coffee…….don’t you just love the smell of coffee? I know hubby loves the smell, but does NOT drink coffee at all. I often wake up my kids in the morning by telling them to “wake up and smell the coffee!” I then stick my cup of coffee under their nose in a way to frustrate the heck out of them. I think someday they will have fond memories of the creative way their mom got them up in the morning. πŸ™‚ While on the topic of coffee, I must make you all aware of one of my favorite coffee songs. Yes, a song about coffee! You just never know what you will get on my blog, just the other day I posted a wonderful worship song…today it’s a song about coffee! This is a fun coffee song by an old friend of mine. So gather your kids together and sing along with me….

“C-O-F, F -E -E why in the world do we drink coffee?”

If Coffee Smells So Good Why Does it Taste So Bad
