Weeding for a legacy!

Last Friday on a hot day, we all got up early and went to pull weeds at someone else’s house! Oh and did they have lots of weeds, and it was one of those hot, humid, simmering summer days.

So what drives a family finally embarking on a relaxing summer break to get up early to pull weeds.

A man’s legacy does it.

We have known this man for over 15 years. We don’t know him very well, but I coached with him about 12 years ago, he is a kind, generous, funny and Godly man. He will go out of his way to help others and has always had a personal way of relating to the students he taught and coached.

He recently suffered a debilitating stroke, he is still in his 50’s. It will be a long road ahead for this man, but when the call came out that the family needs help, there were many willing to help.

I talk to my kids all the time about having a good and Godly reputation. A Godly reputation leads to a Godly legacy. And this man’s life is a gentle reminder to me of the importance of living a Godly life and striving to make a difference in the lives of people. After all when it comes down to it, HOW you lived your life for Christ is ultimately all that really matters. The stuff we buy, the sports we play, the house we live in, the car we drive will not matter. If we made a difference in the lives of others and impacted their lives for Christ, lives will be changed, and who knows someone may come and pull weeds at your house someday also. 🙂

  1. And never underestimate the power of the lesson you are teaching your kids as you do this sort of thing for others. Teaching them to be others-centered is a valuable lesson that will stay with them throughout their lives.

  2. Yes Linda, you are right! I thought of the other lesson in this weeding chore also. SportTman was asked to sleep at someone’s house that night, and I had to decline since I thought this was important life lesson for him. 🙂

  3. I can’t wait to meet you in person! Your servant-heart encourages me!!!

Oh, when we passed through Dauphin on Saturday, it was pouring. I could partially see the feild from the highway and it seemed that the cars were leaving.

We wouldn’t have been able to stop anyway d/t we were on a time schedule.

    Did SporTman’s team win?
